Returning to the Essence of Music

Music is an extension of language. When words fail to express emotions, music becomes the sole language of emotions, enabling them to be fully expressed within the melodies.
When it comes to good headphones, there are several qualities that are important. These include immediate and accurate dynamics, sweet highs, precise mids, deep lows, a transparent sense of space, and precise positioning. However, while these sound characteristics are important, they are not our primary concern. What matters most is whether headphones can evoke emotions in people and allow their thoughts to synchronize and interact with the music. This creates a fantastical journey through the story of music, resonating with the joys, angers, sorrows, and happiness within it.

Immersive Sound Field Space

【 Multi-Asymmetric Acoustic Cavity Design 】

The audio performance of headphones is determined by three key factors: the characteristics of the frequency domain (w), time domain (t), and spatial domain (r) within the basic harmonic wave of cos(kr - wt). The frequency domain (w) and time domain (t) define the texture and qualities of sound, while the spatial domain (r) determines the sense of direction and distance from which sounds originate. Therefore, whether the sound feels truly lifelike depends on the performance in the spatial domain (r).

To create a vivid listening experience that replicates the realism of a live music performance, Corr Acoustics headphones employ a multi-asymmetric acoustic cavity design within the headphone in the spatial domain (r). We integrate the physical wave mechanisms of radiation, diffraction, and reflection into the headphone’s structural design, creating a lifelike three-dimensional sound field space. This results in an immersive auditory sensation that makes you feel as if you are right there.

Creating Headphones with

an Acoustic Concept

Inspired by Concert Halls

【 Sound Field Space Design 】

In a concert hall, the optimal location for listening to music is typically the central front section of the audience seating, which is located in front of the stage. The exact location may vary slightly due to different acoustic architectural designs. When seated in this prime listening spot and looking in all directions, the spatial sound field in a concert hall is symmetrical along the frontal axis and asymmetrical along the sagittal axis. Therefore, Corr Acoustics headphones adopt an asymmetric acoustic cavity design within the headphone’s inner space to replicate the acoustic structure of concert halls.

Moreover, in the horizontal plane of a concert hall, there are rich interactions of sound waves involving radiation, diffraction, and reflection within spatial sound fields. To reproduce these acoustic phenomena and achieve an immersive, lifelike listening experience, Corr Acoustics headphones utilize a multi-cavity design.

The Trade-Offs between

Sound Aesthetics and the Main Trend

【 Wired Headphones 】

Wireless transmission and active noise cancellation are undoubtedly the established trends for future headphone development. However, under current practical technology and regulations, wireless transmission and active noise cancellation can compromise the sound quality of headphones.

From the outset of Corr Acoustics headphones’ development, they were designed as wired headphones. Currently, wired transmission offers superior signal stability compared to wireless transmission. Additionally, we have chosen not to adopt a detachable cable design for a specific reason: detachable connectors can wear out due to frequent assembly and disassembly, and prolonged exposure to the air can lead to oxidation of the metal surfaces at the connection points, affecting the quality of signal transmission.

Opting for a fixed wiring approach ensures a stable and controllable quality of music signal transmission.

Romance of Nonlinear Sound

【 Maple Wood Headphones 】

Music’s beauty lies in both its expected and unexpected developments, while sound’s allure lies in the transformations between linear and non-linear responses. Signal fidelity is the fundamental requirement for audio reproduction, which holds true for loudspeaker products. However, this is not necessarily the case for headphones. Stereo loudspeakers produce sound by vibrating and projecting it into the surrounding space. Before the sound reaches our ears, various wave phenomena occur, such as radiation, diffraction, reflection, and non-linear interactions, including transmission, reflection, absorption, and resonance. All of these factors combine with the original sound in our ears to create “the music” we listen to.

If headphones prioritize zero distortion and zero rendering, it’s akin to listening to music with stereo speakers close to our ears, lacking spatial sound rendering. This can make music sound extremely uncomfortable.

Corr Acoustic headphones not only incorporate the wave mechanisms of sound radiation, diffraction, and reflection but also use non-homogeneous maple wood materials in their design. The maple wood generates the non-linear effects of sound wave transmission, reflection, absorption, and resonance that occur in natural environments. This results in a more realistic and natural sound.

Simplicity in Elegance

【 Headphone Mechanical Design 】

The headphone headband assembly is made of low-clamping force metal and features conforming inert foam padding. The spacious ear cavity, with a diameter of 70 mm and a depth of 25 mm, enhances the comfort of wearing full-sized headphones. The headphone main body has a horn-shaped design on both sides, and the side profile consists of multiple curved segments that seamlessly interlock, visually conveying a sense of smooth and flowing music.

These headphones are semi-open-back and equipped with 40 mm headphone drivers, which deliver high-quality sound. The maple wood speaker housing provides excellent acoustic performance. The headphones have a 2-meter cable that allows for easy movement while listening to music. They are approximately 20 cm in length, 20 cm in width, and 12 cm in height, making them compact and portable. The overall weight of the headphones is around 325 grams.
